The academic job market is in a perpetual state of crisis. Too many PhD's, not enough jobs, and lots of doctoral programs credentialing people for teaching jobs who increasingly have to look for alternative work within -- or outside -- academia. The Jobs We Want?
Miriam Posner has just published a thoughtful piece on the alt-ac movement in Inside Higher Ed. She's very supportive of the movement, but warns that it won't be a cure all for the difficult job market in the humanities. Definitely worth reading.
